Integrating RSS into your Firefox Web Browser
By now many of you should have read and heard plenty on information
about RSS (Really Simple Syndication) and how it can benefit your
website visitors.
If you haven't or are new to RSS read our Why
use RSS? Article which gives an insight into RSS use and benefits.
In a nutshell, RSS helps keep you up-to-date on news, information
and blog posts, from subscribed websites who are continually updating
information on their sites.
How it benefits you?
Rather than having to visit the same sites you normally do to obtain
news and information updates, you can now easily integrate the RSS
Feed directly into your Firefox Browser using the 'Live Bookmarks'
option. Live Bookmarks update themselves automatically with the
latest content from the subscribed website so it's always available
directly in your browser no matter which website you are viewing.
With Live Bookmarks, the content comes to you. Instead of constantly
checking Web pages for changes and additions, a Live Bookmark delivers
updates to you as soon as they are available.
OK sounds great how do I do it?
Well if you haven't already,
and once installed you are ready to start adding 'Live Bookmarks'
to your browser toolbar.
When you visit a website which has RSS Feeds available you will
notice the RSS icon button in both the Address Bar and the Google
Toolbar section available for selection.
RSS Icon Button
This means that the website you are viewing has an RSS Feed available
for you to subscribe to and easily add to your 'Live Bookmarks'.
To add the websites feed to your toolbar there are two (2) ways
to complete each as easy as the last.
1. Adding via Website Address Bar
Simply click the RSS Icon button in the address bar and you will
be prompted to add the feed as a Live Bookmark. Some websites which
offer multiple feeds (see Image 1) will give you a choice of feeds
to select, simply click the feed you require and your done. Alternatively
websites with only one feed available (see Image 2) will prompt
you to add the bookmark directly to the Firefox Bookmarks Toolbar
Folder.

2. Adding via Google Toolbar
Websites with RSS Feed available will also show in the Google Toolbar
with the RSS Icon button and Subscribe text (see Image 3) available
for clicking. To add to your Live Bookmark, simply click the down
arrow and you will be presented with two (2) options;
1. Clicking Subscribe to "RSS Feed name" will add it directly
to your Firefox Live Bookmark toolbar
2. Clicking 'Choose Reader' will let you add the RSS Feed to a news
aggregator service like NewsGator, Google Reader, Yahoo or Furl
etc.

Now that you have added an RSS Feed, you can easily view all articles,
news or information available on the website by simply clicking
the down arrow on the Live Bookmark where you will be presented
a chronological list of clickable links.
In conclusion
You can see how integrating RSS Feeds into your browser can make
your website viewing easier and saves time not having to trawl through
multiple pages trying to find the right information, when it's available
simply via one click from your Live Bookmark.
Alternatively website owners can integrate this service directly
into their websites to assist their viewers with easy to access
information as well as increasing your sites popularity on the Internet.
